Development
This maple was first potted in a bonsai pot in the Spring
of 1995. After the second branch from the base, there was a straight section of
trunk without a taper. .
After spent a careful look, I would be able to find a good
taper by turning the tree 45 degrees counterclockwise and cut the upper section
off to create the taper. I waited until the next Spring/Summer to create a new
apex and a new first branch by wiring. These branches were then allowed to grow
freely.
New shoots were allowed to grow to 3 feet in their
correct positions without any pinching. At the end of the growing season, those
shoots were then cut back to only two nodes. In the Spring of 1997, the tree
was potted into the same pot but turned to introduce a new front.

developing, this picture shows how the tree looks in November 2000
