Workshop on Trident Maple 4

Profile

Artist Suthin Sukosolvisit
Tree Name Trident Maple (Acer Beugerianum)
Tree Origin Asia
Tree Height 22"
Total years of Training 5 years

Development

This maple was first potted in a bonsai pot in the Spring of 1995. After the second branch from the base, there was a straight section of trunk without a taper. .

After spent a careful look, I would be able to find a good taper by turning the tree 45 degrees counterclockwise and cut the upper section off to create the taper. I waited until the next Spring/Summer to create a new apex and a new first branch by wiring. These branches were then allowed to grow freely.

New shoots were allowed to grow to 3 feet in their correct positions without any pinching. At the end of the growing season, those shoots were then cut back to only two nodes. In the Spring of 1997, the tree was potted into the same pot but turned to introduce a new front.

After another few years of careful training and developing, this picture shows how the tree looks in November 2000
